Starting with my GRANDPARENTS
(This website is a work in progress - please check back periodically)
The photo above is my maternal grandparents on or near their wedding day. Pattie Elizabeth Twiddy and Charlie Burton Twiford met and married in Buffalo City in Dare County, NC on August 3, 1913. They were able to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary - only 3 short months before Grandaddy Twiford passed away. He died 19 November 1963. Grandmother died 3 Feb 1974.They had 7 daughters: Mary Louise, Nancy Iva, Della Marie, Bertha Clay, Dorothy Inez, Frances Gray and Doris Mae. (my mother) More about each of them later under the Surname link.
Charlie Burton Twiford was born 17 Apr 1891 in Dare County, NC. He was the son of Trimegan "Trim" Henry Twiford and Mary Caroline Holmes. Mary Caroline was Trim Henry's second wife. His first wife was Amanda Cain and they were the parents of two children, William Henry Twiford and Lora Mae Twiford. Trim Henry then married Mary Caroline Holmes, the daughter of Jerome Burton Holmes and Penelope Ann Basnight. At the age of 16 years old he lost his mother. Family oral history says that she 'committed suicide' and although I have never found evidence of this it is believe to be true as it was told to me by many relatives. The story is that she had many seizures and had been awake for days with G Grandaddy taking care of her. He eventually fell asleep from being so tired and it was at that time that Mary Caroline when out to the woodshed and killed herself. This is where the oral history changes. Some say she slit her wrist others says her throat. Either way, my great grandmother must of been in a bad way and felt there was no hope. My heart still pains for my grandfather who lost his mother too early in life. He had two sisters, Odessa Twiford and Bertha Clay Twiford. Trim Henry married for a 3rd time on 13 Oct 1913 to Mariah "Janie" Simmons daughter of Pelege Miller Simmons and Phoebe Ann Sawyer. There were no children born to this marriage but Mariah Jane Simmons had been married previously to Zebedee Smith and had several children with him.
Pattie Elizabeth Twiddy was born 16 Apr 1895 in Currituck County, NC. She was the daughter of Nancy James Chaplin and Joseph Henry Twiddy, Sr. This side of my family has proven to be the hardest line to research. Things don't add up and when they don't fall into place as they should, I have to search deeper and deeper. From proven facts and oral history I have and continue to put my grandmother's life and ancestor's history in perspective. You see my great grandparents, Joe Henry, Sr and wife Jimmy Nan (are the names their descendants call them) were not together when my grandmother was born. Story goes that he went to find work and never came home...he was presumed to have died at sea many years before my grandmother was born. My mother's life story will be told on a separate page as it is complicated and somewhat hard to follow.

My paternal grandparents were Mordecai Morris White and Ollie Francis Jackson. They both were born and raised in Pasquotank Co, NC. More about each one of them later under the Surname link.
