Map of Northeastern NC - 360 degree area of where my ancestors settled & moved around

I was born in northeastern North Carolina in Pasquotank County...Elizabeth City, NC to be exact. I have been doing genealogy off and on for over 40 years.  Someone handed my dad a copy of our White direct line (from Perquimans Co, NC) when I was a teenager and that sparked a sense of where we came from. I picked up where that direct line left me and decided to find out who my  ancestors really were. So that’s where my journey began.  I use to do genealogy  back when you when to courthouses, graveyards, cemeteries, libraries and asked  all of your older ‘kinfolk’ to tell you stories of where they came from. Notes were made in spiral notebooks not on computers. That was when researching was really researching. Putting the puzzle together of who, what, when and where has always been a lot of fun for me. I am a firm believer of "Proof vs. Goof".

I like to say that I come from ‘old bloodlines’ – not a 2nd, 3rd or 4th  generation descendant but rather my ancestors were here dating back to the 1600s when this country was just beginning.

Oh, I’d like to say that another reason I am doing this blog is for my family and relatives near and far and present or future generations to come. There are so many stories that need to be documented and told so that my children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews will also know where they came from.

The name of my site, “Watering My Family Tree” is what I’m doing – I want my family tree to live on and the only way to do it is to continually water and nourish it with information.

So I hope you enjoy reading what I have written – as a good friend of mine (that has helped tremendously in helping me find those ancestors hidden away) keeps telling me – ‘who are you NOT related to – your tree is full of interesting folks’. I plan on putting those interesting folks and stories together on this site and will continue digging for more as time goes on.
